One of Exigen Services' first and most innovative XP projects was centered on developing a PDA application and a middleware server for handling maintenance routines and equipment checks and processing work orders at the client's manufacturing facilities worldwide. Our client on this project was the world's leading microprocessor manufacturer. The use of mobile computing in this way was new for both the customer and Exigen's development team. The application had to be written using the brand new Compact.NET Framework Library, creating increased difficulty without best practices to guide the project. Because of these unique obstacles, XP was selected to allow flexibility and room for shifting project requirements during the project. However, due to the fact that the development team was offshore, Exigen had to customize XP rules to fit the situation--creating new best practices that will be shared during this Experience Report.
